Be it COVID impact or not, being laid off, furloughed or having a work environment that is becoming unproductive for you can trigger a lot of frustration. This frustration can debilitate your ability to take a step back, take a deep breathe and contemplate what to focus on next. How do we overcome this frustration and move to a more optimistic view of the future for one’s self? Below are some steps to take to move from frustration to optimism!
Talk it out with colleagues, friends and family. Do you have a mentor you can re-connect with to not just vent but have a productive conversation on your strengths and ideas on what to explore doing next? A friend who is connected to career interests to brainstorm? Reach out to your network no matter if they are directly and indirectly related to your interests as you never know what ideas they could spark or a connection they may have in your next career step.
Block a small part of your day to get your frustration out. Maybe it is a high energy workout, hitting a punching bag, and heck, even a 30 second cry to help get this negative energy out so to spend the rest of the day with positive energy on what is next.
Create daily future looking opportunity time. Block at least an hour of every day to spend time on planning your next move. You need time to assess your interests, talents and strengths; research either the job and business market to update LinkedIn profiles and business plans or other materials that get you to your next place in life.
As the saying goes, things happen for a reason. You were probably ready if not needing a change that may now have been forced on you versus being in control of your pivot.
